Hypo-Kulturstiftung (Hypo Cultural Foundation)

The foundation stands for diversity in art and culture. Until now, its focus has been on promoting various cultural projects with an emphasis on visual arts and architectural culture. In times of rapid change and advancing technological innovation, the foundation is realigning itself and shifting its focus in particular to promoting progressive artistic ideas and positions and creating a network for exchange. Our largest and most important commitment is the Kunsthalle München, an internationally renowned exhibition venue in the heart of downtown Munich.

The Hypo Cultural Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law of HypoVereinsbank/UniCredit Bank Munich and was founded in 1983. According to its statutes, it serves in particular “the idealistic and material promotion of cultural projects and institutions in the fields of art, the cultivation and preservation of cultural values, and the preservation of historical monuments,” thereby promoting diverse cultural life in many places. The foundation’s capital stock amounts to EUR 12 million.

The foundation also pursues the goal of enriching the cultural offerings in the state capital of Munich by promoting regular exhibitions of a cultural or scientific nature.

The foundation thus pursues exclusively and directly charitable and benevolent purposes.

The foundation’s governing bodies are the foundation’s board of directors and the foundation’s board of trustees. Since the foundation was established, His Royal Highness Duke Franz of Bavaria has held the honorary chairmanship of the board of trustees.
